I like soccer. I like to watch it. I even tried to play it a few times when I was a kid, though I was not good at sports that didn't require me to use my hands, so I switched to tennis and basketball. But I can imagine how skillful you have to be to play football well, and how much fun and how exciting all that passing and dribbling and tackling and shooting must be if you are good at it."

Jim Wirtanen spent 12 years as a bike messenger dodging buses and cabs on the streets of Boston. He earned the name 'Deadguy' after being hit by a speeding Lincoln Continental on the third week of the job. The collision threw him 40 feet across an intersection and he hit his head on a light pole.

Wirtanen recovered, returned to messaging and for the last 6 years of his career, delivered packages and legal documents using a brakeless, single-speed bike known as a track bike.

Though a bike with no brakes sounds insane to many, Wirtanen swears by it.

'Basically, a track bike is the perfect invention,' said Wirtanen, who now works as a mechanic at Harris Cyclery. 'You can't make it any better.'"

Muni First Impression

Got the SUN XL Unicycle home filled the Huge Volume Tire. Put the pedals on (cheap plastic) and rode around the block. Good was the huge 20 X 4.5 inch tire. It will be a lot of fun to ride when I get used to all that rubber on the ground. Not to easy to turn. So I added alot more air and took it out on a trail in the woods behind my house. Again alot of fun but the cranks are way to short and I cannot move this heavy wheel very easy. So I will have to get longer cranks and I know www.Unicycle.com has um cheap for $ 20 - 30 a pair. In the mean time for comparison I added an old pair of 170 mm
cranks ( they look funny and If I were to keep them would need to grind off the chain ring arms on the drive side. I did try to ride it abit but the long arms are strange but much easier to get the wheel moving. I will do some research on crank length vrs wheel size before I bother to order any size. I really wanted to get in a Road ride before the rain hit this morning so I put the MUNI away and rode about 7 miles on the Lemond Fillmore with the new Velocity Deep V wheels and those sealed bearing hubs are really nice. More on the Fillmore and the Muni later.........

Clips: Walking Bike, Perfect Use For Old Keds, Jordans: "We're not going to oversell this one. It's a bike. And it's had the wheels replaced by spokes tipped with shoes. In other words, it's quite possible the greatest invention ever."

I wonder if this is a FG or SS :)

Oddsmakers like Red Wings to win Stanley Cup - Sports Rumors - NHL - Yahoo! Sports

Oddsmakers like Red Wings to win Stanley Cup - Sports Rumors - NHL - Yahoo! Sports: "Oddsmakers like Red Wings to win Stanley Cup

It has been a decade since the NHL had a team repeat as Stanley Cup champion and most Las Vegas oddsmakers give the Ducks a good chance of ending that drought this season.

The Detroit Red Wings, who had the league's best record during the regular season, are the consensus favorites at 3-1, followed by the San Jose Sharks, who are listed at 9-2, according to Bodoglife.com.

Then comes the Ducks, who are grouped with the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins on most sportsbooks with odds ranging from 6-1 to 10-1. Although the Ducks are not the overall favorite, they have a decent chance of matching Detroit's back-to-back championship teams of 1997 and 1998. At VegasInsider.com, they are listed at 6-1 to repeat."

Looks can be deceiving. This applies to Man and Bike alike.

Funny how I spend more time riding my old steel fixed beater bikes over new sexier technology road & mountain bikes. All those years waiting to upgrade to carbon or Ti, yet the old steel beater still gets ridden the most.
